Christmas in Our Little Apartment

Usually, I can go home for one holiday around the end of year - and usually I'll choose Thanksgiving. So that means Christmas I'm usually spending it at home. Last year, I worked on Christmas and Christmas Eve so it wasn't a big deal being in Florida. However, this Christmas I had it off (shout out to not working for Disney). It's weird being at home in Florida when the rest of your family is celebrating together, but it's not the end of the world.

This year, I ended up buying a 5.5 foot Christmas tree off of Amazon and got a lot of cheap lights from Home Depot to decorate them with. Since it was the first Christmas that I spent away from my family and not actually working, we tried to make our apartment as Christmassy as possible on a tight budget. This ended up meaning that we just watched a lot of Christmas movies, lit Christmas smelling candles, and strung Christmas lights around the apartment to make it feel a little more cozy.

On Christmas Eve, I ended up doing a lot of writing, playing with Dixie, cooking, cleaning, hanging out on the couch watching movies, and drinking coffee (and later mimosas). While I miss spending the time with family or friends who aren't working, it was nice to slowly start traditions of my own. I was able to Skype with my mom, step-dad, brother, and sister while they opened up their presents, which was incredibly nice.

On Christmas day, I did pretty much a lot of the same that I did on Christmas Eve. I spent the day relaxing and a lot of time Skyping. I skyped with my dad and sister when they opened their presents in the morning, then with my friend in CA for a little bit while she was going from one place to another, and finally with my dads family while they opened presents. I was able to see my paw paw, which was the best Christmas present I could have ever asked for.

All in all, it was a really relaxed Christmas Eve/Day spent talking to loved ones and watching movies. Because I don't really plan on moving back home anytime soon, I think that it's really important to start your own traditions. While I didn't really create any concrete traditions this year, I think it's a step in the right direction.
