I'm Going To Grad School?

I decided four years ago, when I was a junior in college, that I wanted to go to graduate school and get my PhD. I've always wanted my PhD, because I really want to work in a museum as a curator, or in a university teaching. I love World War II history, and I feel as if not a lot of people have much knowledge on it because it's more "current" history. Most professors, I've found, study the past but it's the long past.

Going through this process, I've found that there isn't a lot of information out there on "how to apply to graduate school" for those of us who aren't still in school. Going back to school was always an intention of mine, but I didn't realize that it would be so difficult to find information for those of us who aren't still in school.

I've (luckily) saved all of my work from college so I have papers to pull from for my writing sample, but unfortunately for me I had accidentally left them on my hard drive at home in Louisiana. My dad, being the saint that he is, decided that the easiest way to get them to me so I could start working on editing would be to buy another hard drive, and ship it to me. The stars aligned again when my little sister decided she wanted a mac for college because without her, I probably wouldn't have been able to get the papers since my dad owns a PC and I own a Mac.

I've already compiled a list of places I'm going to apply to, started studying for the GRE, got my resume in order, requested my transcripts, have professors that I'm going to ask for letters of recommendation, and a list of professors I'd like to study under at the university. I'm currently working on perfecting my Statement of Purpose, and editing my 23 page thesis that I wrote my junior year of college.

I'm going to write about it here, so that hopefully this will be able to help someone else who wants to apply to graduate school and isn't currently in school.
