Board Games & Beer -- It'll be Fun

The Tuesday before I was supposed to leave, Christian and I had made plans to go play board games at our friend Vanessa’s house. That day, after I got off of an 8-hour shift in 90-degree weather, I got home and took a nap. Around 7, Christian tried to wake me up to go to Vanessa’s to ‘play board games and drink beer.’ I was tired and didn’t really want to go, and I was trying to push it back more and more, but Christian was adamant about leaving, so finally around 7:30 we left. Little did I know that that was not the plan.

When we finally got to Vanessa’s apartment, Christian was sneakily texting someone (it was Corey), and I was messing with him. Then he started trying to distract me by pointing out ‘weird looking cars’ and so on and so forth. Finally when we got down to Vanessa’s apartment, I opened the door and there were about 25 people waiting for me. They had thrown me a surprise going away party. Needless to say I was surprised. I wasn’t planning on making a big deal out of my leaving and didn’t think to throw a party but apparently everyone at work had been planning this for two weeks by that point.

I was shocked and so happy, albeit a little sleepy still. I am so glad that everyone who could make it came out, it really did mean a lot to me. We spent a few hours just talking and laughing, drinking and eating pizza. It was a good night and ended without any tears. I got to spend quality time with people that I didn’t really get to spend too much time with outside of work, which was super nice. We sang songs and danced all around the apartment and generally just acted a fool. It was a quiet night, and the perfect way for me to be sent off.
