Merry Christmas, Darling

Yes, this is a post about Christmas. Yes, I am aware that it's April and I should have posted this 12,000 years ago. But you know what, you win some & you lose some. In all honesty, this is a win for me because Christmas time is my favorite season of all.

Ever since I got accepted into the DCP, I've been thinking about what comes with the acceptance. On one hand, I'm really excited about going. However, at the same time I'm freaking out because it'll be the first time really far away from my family & I'll be missing the holiday season.

Looking back at old pictures & watching old videos of Christmastime at home makes me more confident that I'll be okay, even though by that time I'll probably be a little homesick. The pictures above are unedited, from this past Christmas at my dads house. Christmas is my absolute favorite time and I cannot wait to make new memories with friends, but I know my family will always be in the back of my mind.

The Influenster Jolly VoxBox

As many times before, I was sent a box by Influenster to review a few different products. Influenster is a free service that anyone can join that you basically review products for! I think I received this box back in December (oops, again), but I'm not 100% sure. Obviously it's called the Jolly VoxBox so it had to be sometime around then.

In all honesty, this was one of my favorite boxes that I had received. I really enjoyed everything that was included in this box. My favorite thing that I received was the Show Off lipstick/lipgloss thingy. It was a color that I didn't have (thank goodness --> I'm trying to collect them all, that's how obsessed I am). My second favorite thing was the NYC eyeshadows. I've been trying to wear eyeshadow more and more, but I'm not the most outgoing when it comes to colors.

Then we have tissues, and duct tape, which always come in handy, but not really the greatest things in the world. But hey, I really liked them so it's all good. And last, but certainly not least, we have Skinny Cow chocolate. This was really awesome to receive because I'm trying not to eat anything really awful for me, or anything that has too many ingredients. While this didn't really fit into the latter of the two categories, this definitely isn't awful for you. I thought that the chocolate was really good, and this is coming from someone who doesn't really like chocolate!

Overall, I really love getting the Influenster VoxBoxes. I've discovered some really great products and some that are not so great (most of the time, they're great though).

The Emptiest of Empties

Originally, when I took the pictures for this post, I was going to break it up into three different posts, but I figured that it was too much commotion to break it up into three different posts (and completely unnecessary)! I'm completely nosy and love seeing the products that people have used up recently, so I figured you may want to see them too. Basically, I'll just say if I liked the product or not, and if I would repurchase them again. So, without further ado:

Here, you can see a few of my favorite things. These are my essential bath products. I like to use guys shaving cream because I've got really sensitive skin and I feel like this works better for me. This face wash, the Extra Gentle Cleanser was okay, but it's not my favorite. As you can see, Bath and Body Works body washes are my absolute favorite, as you can see. and Sweet Pea is my absolute favorite scent.

Other things that I have here are three different shampoos/conditioners. Basically I like to have a variety of them because I like to switch them out. I think that I read somewhere, probably a long time ago, that you're supposed to switch out your shampoos/conditioners out after each time you end one because it could cause build up in your hair? I don't even know...

Normal things I have to repurchase: Listerine Cool Mint, Nail Polish Remover, Dove Deodorant, exfoliating pads [I use these to take off my makeup]

Psssst! Dry Shampoo - I really liked this dry shampoo, and I thought it was really good. In all honesty, I'll probably buy it again but right now I'm trying out the Not Your Mothers Dry Shampoo, which I'm in love with.

Olay Face Wipes - I didn't actually really like these. I didn't feel like they actually took my makeup off very well, and it kind of burnt my face a little whenever I would use them. I do have sensitive skin though, so that may have something to do with it.

I normally only get travel sizes for when I'm traveling (obviously), or if they come in my Birchbox, so that's where these empties have come from.

The products I liked: the Dove Beauty Body Wash, Vaseline Lip Therapy, Crest 3D White, and Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish [I actually bought a full size of this after I ran out of the smaller version that came in my Birchbox].

I didn't like:
The Clean & Clear Morning Burst - I don't know why, but I hated this travel size, which is odd because I have the full size and loved it. Something about it made my face burn every time I used it.

Marvis Toothpaste - This is an Italian toothpaste, and I just really didn't like the taste of it.

ONE Hair Product - It was supposed to be something you could use that would pretty much do everything for your hair, but I just didn't like the way it felt on my hair.

Reviewing: Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish

One of the perks of having Birchbox is that you can go and review the products that you receive in each month's box, and you get points. For every 100 points, you receive a $10 credit (which is awesome!). You can save up the points and put them towards an order on their website.

I received a small sample in one of my Birchboxes, and after using the entire small sample I immediately looked online for a larger bottle. I realized that it was the same price on the Birchbox website as well as the Liz Earle website so I decided to use my Birchbox points to get a larger size with 2 muslin cloths.

I eagerly awaited this package to come in the mail, waiting to see if I would love it as much as I did when using the small sample size. After using it for a few months, yes the same bottle, it's safe to say that I'm obsessed with it. I feel like my face has been a lot clearer since I've started using this (only at night though). I had heard about Liz Earle from the many YouTube beauty bloggers before, and I had always wanted to try it. After using this a ton, I really want to try a lot of their other products.

The Influenster University Vox Box

I signed up for this site called Influenster a few years ago. Basically, you sign up and you can fill out a bunch of different surveys about things you like and thing you don't like. After doing that, they decide if they want to send you a few different themed boxes.

Recently, I received a vox box from Influenster called the University Vox Box. Basically, it's a box for college students. They sent me a few questions about my shade of makeup, and other things I used and this is what I got!

I was really excited to get it because I had absolutely no idea what would be coming in the box, so I couldn't wait to open it. I really love everything the brand Rimmel does, so this was the best thing for me in the box. I love the Stay Matte formula, and the color matches me perfectly. The next thing that I was kind of excited about was the pen. You're probably like...wut? But I thought it was going to write in the color that the grip didn't. It writes in black, which is fine, and it writes well so it's all good.

The next few things I wasn't as happy about. I don't use press on nails, so I probably won't use these...or if I do, I probably won't like them. I just really like to paint my nails. Next up was the NYC lipstick. It's a great color, but it feels a little cheap to me. I haven't tried to wear it all day just yet though, so I can't really say how the lasting power is. Lastly in this group was the RedRose Real Tea. I kind of felt that this was a little unnecessary because I've always got some sort of sweet tea or unsweetened tea with me that I just make really quickly. The last thing I was kind of indifferent about: tampons. I like that it's the brand that I use (playtex sport), but other than that I was just like....that's cool.

Music of the Moment: Ben Rector - When A Heart Breaks

"and you don't need Jesus, till you're here, then confusion and the doubts you had up and walk away, they walk away, when a heart breaks"

This was another one of those songs that came on my A Great Big World Pandora stations and I instantly fell in love. I've been in a calm music/calming music mood as of late, and this fits in perfect. I go through stages with my music tastes. Currently it's calming music & country music, two that often go hand and hand (at least to me).

I think that as senior year is beginning to come to a close, I begin to freak out a little more (even though I have a somewhat plan now). Listening to music that's a little slower and a little calmer helps me to just sit back and take things slowly, something that I'm honestly not very good at. I like the constant motion of being on the go and always doing something, but since it's my last few months in Louisiana (for now), I've been taking things a little bit slower than normal. You could say I'm finally starting to fit into the slow pace of life that many southerners have down here.

Happy Birthday, Lauren!

Circa 2010
Lauren Nicole. Where do I even being? This girl has been my friend since freshman year of high school in religion class. I thought she was crazy, and she thought I was ridiculous, obvioulsy a perfect friendship from the get go. We fell apart as friends freshman/sophomore year of college and then toward the end of sophomore year/early junior year we started getting closer. It wasn't until the beginning of senior year in college that we really got super close again. I've been on vacation with her family, and we've spent countless nights at each others houses. We share everything, and there isn't a secret she doesn't know. I honestly don't know how I would have made it through senior year without her. So here's to 22, and many more birthday's to come.

DCP Fall 2014: "The" Postcard

Y'all it's officially official! I finally received my coveted postcard for the Disney College Program for Fall 2014! Once upon a time, they used to send out these huge program guides in purple folders and they were insanely awesome. Since they don't do that anymore, they just send out these little postcards.

I'm so excited for the program. I can't concentrate in school & all my thoughts are about Disney. There are so many things that I want to do/try/go on that it's insanely difficult to sit and actually get through the last month of school. Luckily spring break is next week so I can sit and plan lots of things & make a packing list!

Birchbox: Whenever the last one came in...

I'm pretty sure that this was the last Birchbox that I received, as in the most recent one, and I was actually kind of disappointed in this one. I will keep getting Birchbox sent to me though, because sometimes its really good. It just happened to be one of the not so great months. One of the reasons that it was the biggest disappointment was because I've received a few of these things before, and they're some things that I just really don't use/won't use.

Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream - Honestly, I just don't use BB cream, so I had no idea even of what it's supposed to be like/look like on your skin. It didn't really do anythign for me, but it may do something for you!

COOLA Tinted Matte SPF 30 for Face ($36.00) - I have an SPF that I use already, so this wasn't anything that I would really go out of my way to purchase/spend tons of money on!

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet ($39.00) - I'm kind of obsessed with the Benefit skincare line right now, and I really want to buy that, so I'd rather spend the money on the Benefit skincare before I would spend money on this. I just found that it wasn't anything really out of the ordinary.

Air Repair Rescue Balm All-Purpose Skin Salve and Lip Balm ($12.00) - This is another one of those products that I already use something else that is a lot cheaper that I don't really need to buy another for. I've got awfully chapped lips, and I find that the best lip balm is Vaseline/nivea.

Agave Healing Oil Treatment ($40.00) - And finally, another thing that I use something else already for. I've got the Garnier version of this oil treatment that my hair loves, so I refuse to spend $40 on something.

Music of the Moment: Out Last Night

I've had this song stuck in my head for the longest time. I heard it driving home one day randomly on the radio, and apparently it's an old song...about four years old. I don't know if I haven't heard it before, or if it didn't catch my ear until now, but it's safe to say that I'm pretty obsessed with it right now.

I thought that this song would be fitting for today because tomorrow is my best friend's birthday party. We're going to try and go to the LSU Spring Game, then to dinner, then heading out downtown with a bunch of our friends. I'm so excited for everyone to be in the same place for a little bit, especially before three of us graduate.

I usually work on Saturday's so I had to get excused from my internship, so it's safe to say that I'll be making the most of it since it's my first Saturday off in FOREVER AND A YEAR (no more yelling). But anyways, I plan on having a blast (and sleeping on my friends couch). I hope y'all have a great weekend, because I know I'm going to!

The Long Lost SD Card

Here's one of the long lost photos, trying to figure something out (per usual)
Alright guys, I'm here to give y'all fair warning that the next couple of weeks posts may be interspersed with posts from a couple of months ago. You see, once upon a time there was an SD card. I was obsessed with this SD card, because it held 16 GB of memory on it. Then sometime in the chaos that was Christmas time/moving from home back to the sorority house I lost said SD card.

BUT GUESS WHAT?! I cleaned my room at my dads house the other day and found it. This means that I've found a ton of older pictures that I'd been meaning to upload onto my computer for forever now. I know I don't have to upload them, but I feel like I freaking took these pictures & had posts all planned out so guess what, better late than never.

Some of the posts have to do with Christmas (oops), and BirchBox, and Influenster, and you know...just everything else that I've been meaning to post.

My Internship at a Plantation House

This semester I was luckily enough to receive an internship at Oakley Plantation on the Audubon Historical Site in St. Francisville, Louisiana. This is the place where John James Audubon spent a few months tutoring one of the daughters of one of richest man in the south. It was at this plantation that Audubon began painting and studying all of his birds. The house is an amazing, old plantation in the style of the plantation homes you would normally see in the Caribbean.

I'm there every Saturday to help with whatever they need. So far I've done some gardening, shadowed on house tours, taken care of the animals, polished furniture, and cleaned up whenever they need me to. I've learned so much more about Louisiana during the 18-19th century. For my internship, I've got to work 90 hours this semester (about 11 full days). At the end of the semester, I have to write a 10 page paper about what I learned, and some information about the work that I did. I've never worked on a plantation before, and this has been an absolutely amazing experience. I seriously cannot even get over how lucky that I feel for being given this opportunity.
