My First Mac Purchase!

I've been wanting to make a couple of purchases from MAC for quite some time now, but finally on Cyber Monday I finally took the plunge. The reason? Free overnight shipping. I know, I know, I could have just gone to the mall to our MAC store and purchased the eye shadows there for the exact same price, but I absolutely hate going to the mall any time from the week before Thanksgiving to the week after Christmas. Our mall gets so packed it gives me anxiety. I don't like being around that many people or waiting in lines that are forever long. I just can't do it. So online shopping it was.

I've been watching Tanya Burr's YouTube videos for forever now, which has made me want to begin doing my makeup more and more. I've tried to recreate some of the looks that she does, but it's hard to do without the same colors (or so I keep telling myself). So I did it. After watching many more YouTube videos about 'the best MAC eyeshadow colors', I decided on three: Stain Taupe, Woodwinked, and Sable. They're three of the Bestselling MAC eyeshadow colors, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. Plus, they're all on the list of Tanya Burr's MAC favorites, so they're an instant buy.

I also ended up buying the large MAC palette because I wanted to be able to keep all of my eye shadows in one place. So far, I think that it was a good investment and I'm in love with all three colors. I'm still working on how to pair different colors with them, but I'll get there eventually :). There are a few MAC colors on my wishlist still, but I'm waiting to buy them for a little bit. Up next, I'd like to get Vanilla, Cranberry, Naked Lunch, Sketch, Shrrom, Blanc Type, and Nylon.

RiRi Hearts MAC Collection Launch

Recently, MAC launched their RiRi Hearts MAC Holiday collection. They paired up with Rihanna to create a couple different collections and their most recent one was for the holidays. My friend G and I were at the mall a week ago and when we were in MAC they asked us if we wanted to get our makeup done for free, using Rihanna's new makeup. Being the total girly-girls that we are, we of course agreed, and signed up for a time.

When we got there, we were assigned to a makeup artist and then it began. I had the nicest guy do my makeup. The first thing that he asked me was, how do I normally do my eye makeup. Honestly, I don't really do too much eye makeup on a normal basis. He didn't want to do a crazy smokey eye on me, since it would look crazy unnatural since I don't normally do too much makeup. Then he walked me through the entire process, and explained the reasons behind what he was doing.

Above I have two pictures, one of how my eyes look and the bottom one of the whole makeup look. Normally, he wouldn't have done my entire face since I signed up to get my eyes done, but he had extra time and did the rest of my makeup for me. I really loved pretty much all the products that he used. The only thing that I'm wearing that isn't MAC is my lipstick!

Have you ever done something like this before?

My [obvious] Lack of Self Control

So I did this little thing that I probably shouldn't have done...I went shopping in Rite Aid. It's not really my fault though! They were having their end of the year sale, and I've been wanting some of these things for forever. And you know, stressful time after exams means a little bit of shopping right??

Well, regardless, I went shopping at Rite Aid and only spent about $35 on all of the things pictured above. I had been wanting to try out the Revlon shadow sticks for quite some time now, so since they were 75% off, I figured why not buy a couple!  I've used one of the Revlon Shadow Sticks, and I'm on the fence with it right now.

The only thing that I'm kind of wary about is the Revlon cream blush. I've never used cream blush before, so I'm not too sure about how to apply that, but I'll figure it out. Once I've used everything I'll let you know what I liked and what I didn't like.

It's Beginning to Smell a lot like Christmas

I don't know about you, but I'm obsessed with Bath & Body Works...well, pretty much everything. My favorite thing about the Christmas time is their line of candles. They're so Christmasy and festive, and being that Christmas is my favorite time of year, I like to stock up. Well, on Cyber Monday, besides my debit card crying, I ended up buying six of their candles because they were only $9.00. So I figured, hey, why not?!

I ended up buying Snowday, Twisted Peppermint, Vanilla Snowflake (my dads favorite), Leaves, Winter (my favorite), and Sparkling Icicles. The only candle that I would say is not so Christmasy would be Leaves - it smells like fall should smell (I say should because down in Louisiana fall doesn't really smell like much of anything). Each candle has about 35-45 hours of burn time, which is a ton of time (or so I think). I feel like this will last me forever, but then again with the way that we've been burning candles, they may be gone by the end of Christmas vacation.

I was really excited when my box arrived, but also kind of nervous. I've heard horror stories about people digging through their boxes only to find broken candles with shards of glass everywhere. Luckily, this didn't happen to me. Everything arrived perfectly in tact. Plus, how cute is the inside of the box. I love that it's got a little bit of personalization to it! We've started burning three candles, kind of rotating them after three hours each, beginning with Sparkling Icicles, then Twisted Peppermint, and lastly Snowday.

My Birchbox: December 2013

This month's BirchBox was kind of eh. I was really excited to receive this box since it was holiday based, and since last months box was kind of awesome. I felt like there was a lot of fillers in the box, or things that I just don't really use. My favorite thing as the tea, and my least favorite would have to be the shimmering lotion (because really...I don't want to have a shimmering face). But without further distractions, here's what I got!:

1. Toni&Guy Casual Sea Salt Texturing Spray ($15.00/6.8 oz) - This is just your normal run of the mill, sea salt spray. I have insanely thin hair, and it doesn't really hold anything well. I liked the smell of this spray, and it seemed to work a little bit on my hair, but I'm honestly not that great of a judge.

2. Manna Kadar Cosmetics Sheer Glo Shimmering Lotion ($29.00/1oz) - So...I don't know about this one..You see, It's supposed to be an illuminator, so you put it all over your face, right? Well It makes me look a little bit red, which you can see on my hand. I may try and use it kind of like a highlighter but I'm still kind of on the fence about it.

3. Camille Beckman Glycerine Hand Therapy ($14.00/6oz) - This is a very thick hand cream, which is in the perfect size for me to put in my purse and take with me. We handle a lot of paper at work, which dries out my hands like crazy. For me, hand cream is hand cream, so this wasn't anything too special.

4. Supersmile Ultimate Lip Treatment ($24.00/0.15 oz) -I didn't really find anything special with this lip balm. It says that you can just lick your lips to reactivate the balm, but honestly I don't think it really worked.  I'll continue to use the little sample of lip balm because I can never have to many, but it's not something that I would buy.

5.  Ahmad Teas Assorted Teas ($7.00/ 2 boxes/40 teabags) -  I drink a lot of tea, especially when it's freezing cold outside. You could even say I'm kind of obsessed with tea, so this was kind of perfect. It's actually a pretty great deal to get 2 boxes/40 bags for only $7.00 (or at least I think so!).

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays

A Few of My Favorite Things: Christmas Movie Edition

I love Christmas time, but with exams and school taking up a ton of my time, it's hard to get into the Christmas spirit. Since exams ended, I've just been trying to relax and get more into the Christmasy mood.  This involves, not only listening to Christmasy music, but also watching all of my favorite Christmas movies, and boy do I have a lot of them.

I've listed some of my absolute favorite movies Christmas movies down below, and why I love them. Not listed: Disney's Frozen. I'm absolutely in love with this movie and seriously want to go see it again, and again.

1. The Santa Clause - This is my all time favorite movie. I remember growing up and watching this every Christmastime with my parents. This scene was my all time favorite. Plus how great is Tim Allen as Santa?

2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas - My mom and I had differing opinions on this next one. I love the live action version, while my mom absolutely adores the animated version. You can bet that as Christmas got closer, we had wars over which one we'd play.

3. Jack Frost - I think of this one as one of my favorite Christmas movies simply because I always wanted it to snow, or to live somewhere that snow was regular. I'm still dreaming of a white Christmas, but that may just have to wait a year or so until I move!

4. A Year Without A Santa Clause - This. Because who doesn't love the snow miser and the heat miser. I mean, come on! My younger sister and I can recite the words by heart.

5. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer

6. Frosty the Snowman

7. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York - I blame this movie on my love of New York City, and my want to move there ever since I can remember. Though, Home Alone is a classic, so how could I not mention it on here!

8. Eloise at Christmas Time - For some reason, this is one movie that not a lot of people have heard about, but it's up there on my favorite. If you haven't seen this movie, you should definitely check it out.

9. Santa Clause is Coming To Town

10. A Christmas Story

And those are my top 10 Christmas movies! We've got most of them on DVD and you can bet that on TV doesn't have anything other than Christmas movies on it until Christmas Day. Unfortunately (for me) my younger sister then makes us watch 24 hours of a Christmas Story. I swear I've only seen the beginning and the end...never the middle.

It's Christmas Week!

So...I've been a little MIA lately from this little blog space, and I've got a good reason. I've been vegging out completely. I didn't really think that I was going to want to be away from the internet for such a long time, but this past semester completely drained me. Now that it's the week before Christmas, I cannot wait to do so many things.

This week I've got about 20 hours of work, BUT that means that I've got a ton of time to do absolutely nothing if I want. I plan on watching tons, and tons of christmas movies, listen to a lot of Christmas music, and baking TONS of Christmas cookies! There will be a ton of family time, for both sides of the family, which means a TON of driving. I'm excited, but I can't decide if I'm more excited for the sleeping or the family time. Because, let's be honest...sleep > everything else.

I hope y'all have a great holidays, and that y'all get a ton of rest!

My Birchbox: November 2013

Well, finals are over and my grades will be submitted later this week. Everything is pretty much out of my hands now, and I honestly feel like I did pretty well. This semester was a rough one, and I definitely lost my motivation less than halfway through the semester. But it's done, and I'm thankful for a month long break before going back to school.

I received this Birchbox right before Thanksgiving break, so I immediately took pictures of everything so that I could start to use them. I have to admit, I was really excited about most of the products from this box, and overall, I thought it was really good. My favorite thing? Surprisingly the Chella pencil. My least favorite? The chocolate...you'll see why. So let's get started!

November was all about bringing more good into your life, something I've been working on myself for the last couple of weeks. I received a pretty great Birchbox, and here's why:

1. Ghirardelli Chocolate Bar ($3.95 - for 1) - I really like Ghirardelli chocolate most of the time, but this time it fell short for me. I'm not much of a caramel person, and the chocolate bar that I received was filled with caramel (womp, womp, womp). I tried a small piece of it, to see if my taste buds have changed any, and still didn't really like it, so I gave it to my little sister & dad to share.

2. Color Club Coctail Hour Collection [in Dark n' Stormy] ($8.00 each) - I've only ever seen this brand of nail polish on Birchbox's website. I usually really like the shade (although sometimes my sister gets better colors), and this time was no exception. The color Dark n' Stormy is described as being a gunmetal gray, which is a better description than what I could have tried to give. I like it, especially for post-christmas wintertime.

3. Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy Noir ($90.00 for 3.4 oz) - I liked this scent, and I actually really like receiving perfume samples in my Birchbox. I know people have complained about them before because apparently you can go anywhere to get a sample for free, but I hate asking people for samples of things. I don't know why, but I just feel bad. So getting a sample in my Birchbox actually allows me to see how the perfume wears on me throughout the day.

4. Chella Highlighter Pencil ($18.00) - I'm slowly becoming more and more obsessed with makeup, but the idea of using a highlighter always scares me. However when this pencil showed up, I immediately took it out to try it under my eyebrows, and in the corner of my eyes. This really brightened up those areas for me, and it was really easy to use.

5. Derma E Soothing Collection with Pycnogenol - I received a sample of their cleanser, moisturizer and smoothing serum. I'm still out on how I liked this, but it didn't irritate my sensitive skin (which is a major plus) which means so far it's good in my book. I probably won't be buying their skin care system because I'm really looking forward to trying b.right! Radiant Skincare by Benefit

6. Mox Botanicals Bath Milk ($12.00 for 2.5 oz) - I had heard about bath bombs, bubbles, beads, salts, and oils, but honestly I had never heard of bath milk before. I was a little wary about using this at first because...well...it sounds odd. Bath milk? I gave it a shot, and I just didn't like it...It felt weird to me. I don't know if it was a texture thing or what, but I don't think bath milks are for me.

All About: Rimmel Show Off/Apocalips Lip Lacquer

Rimmel is possibly one of my favorite drug store beauty brands. I feel like all of their makeup is reasonably priced for what it does, and what they have. Now, I'm really jealous of everything that they've released in Britain because I feel like we only have about half of what they've released.

At first I thought that they were a type of lip gloss, but when I read some more reviews/actually got the products, I realized that they're a type of liquid lipsticks. They are so amazingly pigmented, or at least the two colors that I bought are. I bought the colors Big Bang and Solstice (I had the hardest time saying this at first).

They're quite long lasting (at least for me, and trust me I can do some damage to the products on my lips). Now, I have some issues normally when applying lipsticks/lip glosses but I found that these apply really easily. I found that they dry semi-matte, which is good because I personally don't like super shiny lip products.

The craziest thing that I noticed about the product is that the application brush actually has a little hole in it that holds a small amount of product which actually helps when putting it on. The oddest thing about these? I thought they smelled like bananas at first...so if that kind of makes you a little creeped out thinking about,  I may say skip them. I like them a lot though.

I've got super chapped lips normally, so I usually wear a little bit of Chapstick under anything that I put on. Plus, I like to reapply them every threeish or so hours. I've heard people say that the formula can be quite drying and they feel like it gets tighter on their lips as it wears off, but popping a little chapstick or lip gloss on top if you feel like it's getting a little too tight on your lips!

Have you tried Rimmel Show Offs/Apocalips before? What'd you think about them?

All About: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters

The two colors that I have in the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters are Tutti Frutti and Strawberry Shortcake. I'm going to throw this out there right now. I did not choose the correct colors for my skintone whenever I bought these, so I'm not too impressed with the colors but the formula is something completely different. I do plan on going out and buying more colors though because I do actually really like the formula of these. [I really want the Red Velvet color].

ANYWAYS, back to the review. I really like these. The product product is super sheer, but it's definitely able to be built up. They're really creamy and a balmy product, but whenever you finish putting it on it seems as it can be a very opaque cream finish. They didn't have a distinguishable smell, or at least one that I picked up.

Another thing that I really liked about the product is how the packaging somewhat reflects the color that the lipstick is. This is extremely helpful as I'm attempting to run out the door in the morning and I need to grab a lip color.

They kind of wear off a little easily but that's because they're more so a lipbalm more so than a lipstick or a lip gloss. Honestly, I'll probably go out and buy a few more shades just because they're something that I can wear to school quite easily, but otherwise, I don't know if I would buy them again. I've got my eye set on Red Velvet, and Pink Truffle, so once I get those I'll swatch them as well!

Have you tried the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters before? Did you like them?
