My Fight with Nail Strips

Hey y'all. Today I want to talk to y'all about some nail strips. Some really, really, really frustrating nail strips. You see, I received these in my Influenster Varsity VoxBox. I thought that I would give them a more in depth review about why I didn't like them, instead of the short shrug that I mentioned before.

I cleaned my nails of all trace of polish that I could find on my nails (and you know, I get into the nooks and crannies whenever I paint my nails). Then put some lotion of my hands, and then removed the lotion from my finger nails with some nail polish remover on a cotton ball.

Afterwards, I took a look at the packaging. It was a kind of daunting task, especially since I had only ever dealt with nail strips one time before. I was kind of put off as I pulled them out of the packaging because they were gold. See, I'm really cool toned and the thought of wearing anything gold makes me quiver. I decided to give it a shot anyways, because why not.

I found the nail strips that fit my nails the best, and then put them on one by one. I didn't have as much trouble with the nails that only had the jewels down the center, but the jewels all over the nails gave me so many issues. The ends didn't really look right because they had to be filed down. It seems like there could be an easier way? I'm not really sure. I'm still not too sure what I think about them 100%. How do you think they look? Either way, I'm not sold just yet.

Short Review: I didn't like these nail strips because I had a ton of trouble applying them. The sequins didn't really help because it's insanely difficult to cut the strips where the sequins are. I didn't like it, but I wouldn't write the entire brand off. Hopefully they'll make something more my speed that I can try out.

Do you like to use nail strips often? Which is your favorite brand?

Musical Mondays: Bastille

Now, this is the last 'normal' song that is going to be on this blog for awhile because CHRISTMAS TIME is coming (:. So, today we have a band called Bastille for you. Now, when I first heard this song Pompeii I played it on repeat for weeks, literally.

The band comes from London, England, so if that doesn't make you want to check them out then I don't even know.  They've only been formed since 2010, and they're making a scene in a big way. It was this February that they released their first album, which is really really good!

One of the comments on this youtube video was about their eyes, which made me laugh so hard. The exact comment "LOOK AT THEIR EYES, where's sam and dean when you need them?". Now if you watch Supernatural, which I was obsessed with (I may or may not have watched all seven seasons in about two months (during the summer/breaks of course).

What'd you think of the song/band?

My Thoughts on: Bourjois Paris: Bronzing Powder

Today I want to talk to y'all about this bronzer that I found. Now, I scour beauty blogs up and down for the best products for pale people like me. Some of my favorite beauty blogs are from British bloggers, and it's usually really hard to find a lot of the products that they mention. It may be a bit of a long one, but if you want to see a short recap of if I liked it, would I buy it again, will I keep it or give it away, you can just skip to the end!

I don't know if y'all have heard of a site called ASOS but I tend to order from them a lot. They have a lot of sales and you can usually find something that you like there. I ended looking at their beauty section the other day (or you know, a month ago) and found that they had the Bourjois Paris Bronzing Powder (it's got the french name, Poudre Bronzante, Delice de Poudre) on sale for about $8.00. Now, they don't have it on sale anymore, but you can find it hereif you want to check it out.

I haven't actually used any other products from Bourjois before so I'm not really sure how much of their other products measure up, but I really liked this product. My favorite part of this product is the packaging. It comes in a little booklet, which makes it awesome to travel with. Plus when you open it up, it actually looks like chocolate. It doesn't have a strong smell of chocolate, it's actually quite faint. Once you put it on your face, you can't really smell it. It's better than some of the other bronzers that I've used before.

I know it looks a little orange on my hand in the last picture, but I promise on my face it's definitely not. It also looks a little bit shimmery in the package, but it's not shiny either. I can use the shade that I brought #52 (they also have a #51 shade) as either a contour or a bronzer. The thing about this bronzer is that you don't really need too, too much of it. I'm sure that too much of anything can make you look really bad, and this is no exception.

One of my smaller, more meaningless complaints about the product is the fact that it doesn't have a mirror on the inside. Instead, it's got a short blurb about the product, and how to apply it. Unfortunately for me, the powder that I use to set my make up (most days) doesn't have a mirror on it either. So that means I'll now have two larger products being carried around in my purse that don't have mirrors on them. It's a small complaint, but a complaint at that.

Short Review: I really liked this product. It doesn't make me look orange or muddy, nor does it have any shimmer in it. I bought it off of ASOS for about $8 during a sale that they were having. Bourjois is a french brand, but I found it through beauty bloggers in Britain. I use it to contour and bronze. Once I run out, I'd probably buy it again if I haven't found anything to substitute it for!

What is your favorite bronzer? Is it a drugstore brand or an upscale brand?

My Black Friday 'Style'

Black Friday Outfit

Today I'm linking up with Long Distance Loving for her Friday Fancies feature. You see, I actually like doing this feature. It makes me think about different fashions, because let's be honest mine is pretty simple. I wear things I like, and I struggle to put together different looks because I'm really picky about what I wear.

This week, however, the task was a lot easier than I thought it would be. You see, it was all about an outfit for Black Friday shopping. Going shopping on Black Friday is always a tradition that my dad, younger sister and I keep. We don't start until midnight on Friday though, you see we have to keep some things sacred (Thanksgiving traditions).

My 'style' isn't really style when we go shopping for Black Friday, it's more for comfort. My dad really likes to stay out until the wee hours in the morning, then we get breakfast. So I need something that is comfortable for me to walk around in, as well as sitting in the car, and eating lots and lots of food. Usually I wear nike shorts (yes sometimes it is that warm down here), and a t-shirt (if it's super warm), or yoga pants, a long shirt, and a sweatshirt (if it's a little chilly). What can I say? I love comfort.

Do y'all go Black Friday shopping? What do you usually wear if you go shopping?

Help A Sister Out

Alright y'all, I'm going to go ahead and admit that I am quite confused about what 'preppy' is and what 'prep' style includes. I've seen so many blogs entitled 'The ____ Prep',  '____ Prep' or 'Preppy _____', and I've got to admit it's down right confusing.

So I took it to google, and literally googled the word 'prep' to see what it would come up with. The definition it gave me? "A student or graduate of a prep school." Well, that doesn't help me much. I went to a  private, catholic, all girls, college prep high school, does that automatically make me a prep? (I'm just going to go with no, on this one.)

Untitled #64

If going to a prep school makes one a 'prep' that means that dressing in 'preppy' style means you wear pretty much my old uniform (see the skirt above). That was my uniform from when I was in Kindergarten until I was a senior in high school. Now, I'm not hating on anyone who enjoys this kind of style, but whenever I got out of high school I couldn't wait to burn all of my old uniforms (meaning I passed them down to a family friend as quickly as possible).

The first person who popped into my mind of having a preppy style was Gossip Girl character Blair Waldorf. Now, I know she's a fictional character, but honestly the bloggers who define their style as preppy just don't really stick out to me. They may be a modern day example of classic preppy, but  that's about it.

Since the images above are what I think of as 'preppy style', and I may be wrong, but why do people always say that other things are 'preppy'. I'm just a little confused, so if you could help me out here, that'd be great.

What are some other 'styles' that you just have no clue how they got to where they are today?

Stepping into New Territory: Wet 'n' Wild Trio's: Three's a Party & Knock on Wood

The other day I was walking around a drugstore (either Walgreens/Rite Aid/CVS - not really sure which one exactly) and spotted two trios from Wet 'n' Wild. Since I've never owned anything by Wet 'n' Wild before, I was curious to check them out. So I picked them up and brought them home! I've been trying to do my makeup more often, so these two palettes were right up my alley.

The first one up is Knock on Wood. There are three colors here, that have where they go embossed on them (which is kind of neat!). The colors are kind of a softish medium pink, a really dark deep brown, and a dark rosey color. They come with a sponge applicator and a tiny brush, but I just tossed them out before I got a chance to use them (I don't like tiny brushes like that).

The colors are really nice and actually quite pigmented, but they're really dusty...which is kind of odd to say. I guess another way to phrase that would be that it's quite powdery. I experienced a bit of fall out with them, but it's not too hard to clean up. The colors are put together really well, which helps if you're like me and have issues pulling colors together (sometimes).

This next palette I was a bit more apprehensive about picking up. You see, I'm more so one for neutral colors or goldish colors. After I bought it, the only thing I could think was, what did I get myself into....Three's A Party.

This was from one of Wet 'N' Wild's limited edition lines called Pop Art Craze. After reading a little more about it (after I purchased it), I understand a little more what to do with it. Out of all six palettes, it seemed like this was the only useable palette for real life situations.

It took a couple of swipes for these shadows to really show up, so they were a little less pigmented than the previous palette, but none the less. The white shadow is quite chalky and fades really quickly. The second one, a darkish-mediumish red was still powdery but much more pigmented than the others. The final shade, the black color is a charcoal black color, but was still chalky.

I used the "It's a Party" palette for Halloween (well the day before), and really like the way it came out when used with a damp brush. It was so much more pigmented. I use "Knock on Wood" for more of an everyday look, because the colors are easy enough to use without having any skill (aka, me).

Have you used either of these palettes? Would you wear either of them?

Musical Mondays: Cinnamon Girl

Alright, so finding this video was about a pain and a half. The first time that I heard this song I had it stuck in my head for about two weeks afterwards. But you see, I wasn't singing this song I was singing the Jackson Five song that sounds just like this (if you can name it, you win!).

Finding this song on YouTube/Last FM is kind of impossible because of Neil Young's (right??) song called Cinnamon Girl. I couldn't really find much information on her because she hasn't really released any official albums or anything like that as of yet. Regardless, you should definitely at least listen to the song above and see if you can hear exactly similar it is to the Jackson Five song!

What'd you think of the song?

My Current Obsession: Maybelline's Color Tattoos [Swatches & Review]

Today we're going to talk about these little things called the Maybelline Color Tattoo's. They're a cream based eyeshadow that are supposed to last for 24 hours. I freaking love these things and I'm dying to get my hands on the one called 'pomegranate punk'. It looks like the perfect freaking shade for the fall/winter and I cannot find it anywhere! It seems to be sold out every time I remember to look for it.

Now I own quite a few of them myself, and I hate to say it but I don't think that they last 24 hours. Do they last close to it? I don't know, because I'm not willing to keep them on my eyes for 24 hours, or anything near it. I've kept them on my eyes for 8 hours at a time, and they didn't crease. So I'd have to say they could probably last for a bit longer.

As you can see by the picture below, I have used them before I took pictures of them (oh no!), but I've been planning on doing this post for quite some time now, and I've had the light pink color for the longest. I'll wear them as a base on some days, or just by themselves on other days, just depending on what I've got in mind for that day.

They have a really great consistency, and they wear really well. I've heard that they're really similar to Mac Paint Pots, but I don't own any of them so I couldn't tell you how they compare really. My favorite way to use them are as a primer. I put them as a base and then I like to apply my eyeshadows right on top. They hold the color really well (of the creme eye shadow and a primer).

My favorite of all of them is the pink shade, it's definitely my most used color. After that, I love love the bronze and gold colors. The only matte color that I really have [I think they've released three] is the taupe color.

Do you like the Maybelline Color Tattoo's? What do you think about them?

*Disclaimer: I did buy all of these myself, not for the purpose of review but just because I'm becoming more and more obsessed with makeup.

The Influenster SlimSoft VoxBox

Hey y'all! So I'm a member of this website called Influenster, which is a free to join community where people are able to give their opinions of products and experiences and in turn you can receive some random stuff. Anyone can join and it's free! So, the other day I got a package in the mail [and by the other day I mean like a month ago...] from them called the Colgate SlimSoft Vox Box. Now I've got to be honest, I was a little hesitant about getting it/doing a review on it because it's Colgate. You're probably like...what? It's just toothpaste. Well, that's where you're wrong. See, we're a family of strict Crest users. But I thought, why not give it a try, it's free.

So when I first opened it up, this is what I saw. A new toothbrush! I'm always down for a new toothbrush because at the sorority house we have shower caddy's that I put all my stuff to shower in (obviously...), and once...or twice..or so...I dropped my toothbrush on the ground. Just for clarification, I didn't use it after that, I threw it away and got a new one. But regardless, it feels like I'm always looking for a spare toothbrush, just in case. I used this one the other day and I really liked it! I've got kind of sensitive teeth and gums, so I have to have a soft bristles otherwise my gums will bleed (TMi? Maybe?).

Now, here's where things tend to get tricky for me. I also received in the bottom of the box a sample of their tooth paste and mouth wash. And to be honest with you....I did not like either of them. The mouthwash had a weird almost fake pepperminty flavor to it, which turned me off of it immediately. It also didn't do anything for me, it almost felt like it just coated my teeth, instead of cleaned them? It's just not for me. The toothpaste wasn't my favorite flavor either, and still didn't really do anything for me. And that's that!

If you want to receive something like this, you can sign up for Influenster too! Just send me an email at and I'll send you an email for it!

Do you have a favorite mouth wash or toothpaste? I really want to try and branch out a little bit!

My City Style: New Orleans

New Orleans City Style

SELECTED red jacket, $315 / Aéropostale / River Island black jeans, $48 / Sole Society black suede boots
Fleur de lis ring, $325 / Maya Brenner Designs silver jewelry / Stud earrings, $6.44

Trying to explain to people where I'm from is forever difficult for me. Yes I was born and raised mainly in Baton Rouge, but I also spent most o f my summers/vacations in New Orleans where my family lives. So for today's post, I thought I would show a little bit of love to the city that will forever have my heart.

New Orleans is somewhere that I've got a strong attachment to, my family lives there, I fell in love with my (second) serious (ex) boyfriend there, I made friends there, got in trouble there, and that's the place where I spent my time trying to get over that same love. It's got so many memories and emotions all tied up into one place, and I wouldn't change it for the world.

New Orleans is the place that I want to live whenever I have to settle down, and yes I just said 'have to'. I want to be near my family, and I want to be in the place that I love. This place is my home. It's one of my favorite cities in the world, and I'll always love being there. This outfit brings into all of my favorite things about the city as well, from the fluer de lis to the New Orleans Saints.

What city do you claim as your own?

Musical Mondays: Katy Perry

When this song first came out it was played over and over and over again, and honestly I was okay with that. I honestly haven't really liked Katy Perry, as an artist, for that long. Now, don't get me wrong I was ALL about her songs on her first [mainstream] album, especially If You Can Afford Me, and Self Inflicted.

Then, I watched her documentary on Netflix, and everything changed. I have so much respect for her now as an artists and I kind of adore her. It really shows a lot of the stress she went through whenever she was with Russell Brand, and you know what, she deserves a lot more credit than I think that she receives.

Have you seen her documentary? If you haven't, would you watch it?

Review: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains

Today I want to tell you about the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (jesus christ that's a long name). Now, I bought all of these myself, just in case you were wondering..., and when I saw them in the stores I was immediately intrigued. What got me about them was the fact that they look like a giant crayon. I know they're not the first of their kind, but they are some of the most affordable [at least for me...I can't exactly afford four Tarte crayons, or Clinque Chubby Sticks]. The four colors that I have are 005 Crush, 020 Lovesick, 025 Sweetheart Valentine, and 045 Romantic.

I absolutely love these things. The color Romantic is the perfect red lip color and Crush is the perfect color for fall/winter. Sweetheart Valentine and Lovesick are two recent additions, but they're a really great color for the spring time (not winter like I'm supposed be shopping for...oopz). These go on so smoothly but they're not greasy at all. Plus, I feel like they're super moisturizing, but they aren't too heavy on the lips. They don't sit on top of my lips, but rather they conform to my lips. They fall into the cracks, but don't make it look like they're too cracked (did that make sense?).

I get a lot of wear time out of these, even after I've eaten (though not after I've immediately put them on). When it does dry, it dries evenly without leaving product in random areas. I love how they look after an hour or two of wear. They look so good! My favorite part? No transfer or smudginess (such a technical term).

Now, you may laugh at me, but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get more product at first. However, it's just a super easy twist up (and down!) at the bottom of the packaging. Some people say that they smell like peppermint, but I don't really smell it at all really. When I first opened my two more recent purchases, I could smell it a bit more than the ones that have been open for a little while.

Overall, I think these are a really good purchase for someone who wants a little bit of lip color but not really a lipstick! Yes, I know they're not swatched on my lips, but these things have some staying power y'all. It would take me four days to swatch these just because they really do last that long.

Have you tried these before? What did you think about them?

Take A Load Off, Annie

Whenever I have a rough day at work or school, there's nothing that I want more than to take a long, hot, bath. Unfortunately  living in the sorority house, it's not something that's feasible  I mean, think about it for a hot minute. Would you want to bath the same place where 50+ girls had been showering as well? No? Didn't think so. Luckily enough for me, this weekend is my fall break. Meaning I didn't have to go to classes on Thursday and Friday. Unluckily for me, this still meant that I have to drive to work (the sorority house closes).

My favorite part about taking a bath? I like to turn out all the lights (all two of them) and burn a candle or two while watching a show on my laptop. Most of the times It's just something mindless (Vampire Diaries/Gossip Girl/Arrow anyone?), or a couple of videos on YouTube. Most people like to take super hot baths, but I like to take lukewarm baths otherwise I can only stay in there for about ten minutes.

My favorite bubble baths are anything that smells delicious. I tend to put a ton of bubbles in there, so I usually buy just some random bubble bath from Walmart or Target or wherever I am at that moment in time. My favorite scents? Japanese Cherry Blossom, and anything that smells like Vanilla.

Sometimes you just need a break, you know? (Except when you have to read 12,000 books for school, then you just bring them into the bathroom while you take a bubble bath).

What do you do to relax?
