A Day of Reflection

When I walked into work on Friday, I never thought that I would hear about 26 lives being lost, 12 little girs and 8 little boys, along side six adults. Children who were going to school, to get an education, one place where people generally think of safety.

I wasn't browsing the internet on Friday, like I normally do, so when I got up to walk around a little bit,  my friend called me to see if I had heard the news recently. I looked at her sort of questioning what she was talking about and she just looked at me with the saddest of eyes and told me about the shooting.

I'm not a mother. I'm not even close to the age to become a mother, but I felt for those parents. My heart broke when I heard what happened, and for the rest of the day all I could do was listen to coverage.

While I never taught in an elementary school, I did teach at a child development center. I taught art and sports to 3-5 year olds. In the moments that I had heard of what happened, I thought about those children. The little boys and girls who were in my class when I taught, once or sometimes twice a week.

So, for tonight, hug your babies for me. I know when I got home I made sure I knew where my baby sister was (and she's 17 years-old).
