Friendship Is: Pillow Forts

I walked into the Highland House (where my boyfriend & best friends are living) one Friday after work to find my friend Cab’s boyfriend Jeffrey lying underneath a blanket fort. It was so priceless and the greatest thing in the world.

Cab, Jeffrey, Elliot & I stayed up watching Lord of the Rings & the making of Lord of the Rings drinking coffee (for me) and beer (for Cab & Jeffrey). We sat and played with the kittens and just hung out. Friday nights aren’t all for going out, it’s for spending time with friends (more like family).

Sometimes all you need is a relaxing evening at home to make everything better. So here's to friends who turned into family.

When is the last time you made a pillow fort and just hung out?

A Necessity: Sunscreen!

The major concern to me going to the beach was sunscreen/sun protection. I inherited my moms Norwegian/German skin instead of my fathers Cajun French. I am pale as all get out. So naturally I’m terrified of going into the sun without protection. Even on a normal day I’ve got spray sunscreen so I put that on after I put on my makeup!

My mom and dad have both had skin cancer cells removed, which makes me nervous. I know I’m prone to sun burning and skin cancer so I have to be protected!

I prepped for the beach by bringing 70+ sunscreen, a floppy hat, a baseball cap and a lot of towels/cover ups! Regardless of how much sunscreen I put on, because I’m out in the sun on the beach with rays reflecting back at me, I’m going to get sun somehow.

I am proud to say that after apply sunscreen and reapplying it every two hours I only got burnt once on the first day! We had been playing in the Gulf and got out for sandwiches only to forget the sunscreen.

How do you protect yourself from the sun?

July Birchbox

When I got my July Birchbox, I was so excited! For the first time, I didn’t know what the theme of the box was going to be! How I didn’t hear about it, I haven’t a clue. When I got it, I was pleasantly surprised that the theme of the box was the senses (taste, touch, smell, see, and hear).

First things first, these Tea Forte mints. I am in love with them! They're made without any added sugars so they're a lot healthier for you than normal sugary mints! They seriously are delicious and I would totally recommend them to anyone! If you order them off of Bircbox you get three tins for $9.95! That's really great for how many come in one tin!

Next is the Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner. Y'all I am in LOVE! I am a complete spaz when it comes to trying to apply liquid eyeliner so this really simplifies putting it on for me! It's a pen style applicator, which helps a lot! I received it in black and love it!

Next: Harvey Prince Hello. This is one of the better perfumes that I've received from Birchbox. It's a really light scent, which I love, that smells SO good. It's kind of a mix of citrus with floral notes that really energize you. My favorite part is that it reminds me of the Meyer lemons that grow in my moms backyard.

Products that I haven't tried yet: the Alterna Bamboo UV + Color Protection Fade-Proof Fluide & Supergoop! City Sunscreen. Honestly I don't know if I will try the Alterna Bamboo product just because it doesn't seem like something I would like.

The Supergoop! City SUnscreen is just another sunscreen, and just getting back from the beach, I haven't had time to apply it and see if I really like the consistency.

Lastly, but certainly not least, they included a pair of headphones! I love that they are pink and green, because let's be honest those are two of the best colors (besides blue ;)). I love that Glamour and Birchbox collaborated to create such a great box!

What do you think of this months Birchbox?

My Beach Necessities

Going to the beach has to be one of my favorite ways to go on vacation. There's something about the sound of the waves hitting the shore and the smell of the water that is just instantly calming.

Whenever I'm going to the beach, there are always a few essentials that I have to bring along with me. Not pictured here: sunscreen. I'm all on that sunscreen (and aloe vera). I got my moms Norwegian/German skin-tone instead of my fathers Cajun French. So, unluckily for me, I burn SO easily. Of course I have to bring my Bourbon Street hat to represent New Orleans.

My favorite thing to bring to the beach: books & a hat. While there's nothing that I love more than a good trashy beach novel, I bought a whole lot of books that I've been wanting to read for the last few months.

These are possibly my favorite pair of sunglasses in the entire world. They cost me $1.50 a pair, so losing them at the beach wouldn't be the end of the world. While I bring one pair of nicer sunglasses, I normally only wear them if I'm going shopping or something!

I'm halfway through Dracula and The Best American Short Stories 2011 (a book that my mom got me for Christmas), and I'm a few pages into Pride, Prejudice and Zombies!

And of course, you've gotta bring a beach bag with you! I got this one from Walmart for $5! It's something that I can bring with me, and it's okay if it gets a little dirty and messed up! Although it's so cute I hope nothing happens to it!

What are your favorite things to bring to the beach?

The Pink Pelican & Lilly Pultizer

Recently I stumbled upon a website called The Pink Pelican, which is a store that mainly focuses on Lilly Pulitzer. When I went through their website (and blog) I fell in love immediately.

My first fall in love moment: they had the Scarlet Begonia sunglass straps & koozie I have been looking for since I couldn't order them in time off of the Lilly website!

My second fall in love moment? They had the Spike the Punch (sorority) sticker set as well!!!! They  also have May Flowers (family),  and See You Later (academic) sticker sets!

The second I saw all of these things in one place because let's face it, shipping is the devil, I knew that I had to place an order.

I had been looking at the Large 2012-2013 planner in U Gotta Regatta for months now, trying to see if I would really want to spend that much money on a planner and I finally made my decision.

Right after I placed my order, I got two emails. One was a copy of my receipt and the other was one saying they had received my order! Then! Two hours later, I had received an email saying that my order had been shipped!

I placed the order Monday at noon and got my order in on Thursday after I got off work! I probably would have gotten it sooner but the 4th was on Wednesday!

Let me just say, I cannot be happier with all of my purchases, even the $8 shipping was worth it! I would completely shop there for any of my Lilly needs!

Christmas in July!

Today I'm linking up with Alyx from Every Day is a New Adventure for Christmas in July!

Unfortunately, when we went out of town was exactly when I received my Christmas in July present....well it rained the entire time we were out of town which meant that everything got wet.

Never fear, nothing in the package got ruined and when I opened it I was pleasantly surprised! The wonderful Leanna who blogs over at OMG I'm Back in DC!

First off, how adorable is the tissue paper that she added into it! I wish I had thought of something adorable like this!

Although the package got a little wet, luckily nothing got damaged! Especially this cute little handwritten note! I opened it up only to find the cutest little stationery!

So cute! She had the sweetest handwritten note to accompany everything in the package! I love how she was able to relate everything in the package with things that we both love [hello coffee & nail polish!!].

I love all magazines, especially fashion mags! I feel like you can learn a lot (maybe it's just me) from hearing what other people have to say! And where do you get the best advice? From the people who know the business! Next, I love how she gave me everything I need for a mani/pedi! So sweet and thoughtful! I had never tried the Starbucks refreshers before, but these are TO DIE FOR! They're so delicious!

Here is everything all set up on my bed! The magazine was a little wet, but it wasn't ruined! I had to let it dry out for a little bit, but it ended up being perfectly fine! I don't subscribe to Glamour, but after this issue I'm really thinking about subscribing!

Here you can see all the beautiful nail polishes lined up on my nightstand!

Did you participate in Christmas in July? If so what did you get? If not, would you want to next year?

Taylor Morgan Designs

Y'all have you heard of Taylor Morgan Designs? If not, please go check her out! She is the most adorable person I've ever seen (well one of them!). She's chasing her dreams right now in New York City attending F.I.T. This girl has massive talent.

Well Elisabeth had a give away and I won! Y'all this is a big deal, I never win anything!

I was super excited when I got the package, and when I opened it I wasn't disappointed!

First, let's just discuss how pretty her handwriting is, and her stationery is so cute! I'm obsessed with all things black and white print so this was just perfect!

I'm slightly obsessed with her box that it came in! So precious!

If you have any questions you should totally check her out! This is the card that came with the bracelet!

The detail is so glorious. Everything about this bracelet makes me want more of her designs. I really cannot wait to see how well she does.

Favorite part about al of this: it fits my teeny tiny wrists without feeling too big. I have such a hard time finding things that fit properly, so when I got this and it fit like a glove, I was ecstatic!

Bath and Body Works: Aromatherapy

It's no secret's to any of my friends that I am slightly obsessed with Bath and Body Works. Not only with their store, but specifically with their aromatherapy section.

Normally, the bottles that I adore (the glass bottles) of the body lotions from their aromatherapy collection are $13.00 a piece. So when Elliot and I went into the store on Sunday I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was buy two, get two free.

This meant that I, of course, had to buy four bottles! Now, I know I only have pictures of three of the bottles I bought, but I brought one to Elliot's house so I would have something there as well.

I bought Stress Free - Eucalyptus Spearmint,  Stress Relief - Vanilla Verbena, Sleep - Lavender Vanilla, and Sensual - Black Currant Vanilla.

PS: Just so you know, I am not sponsored by Bath and Body Works, though I love their products so much I totally should be. All opinons are my own, especially since I paid for everything myself!

Summer Scarves

Summer Scarves

I feel that scarves should be an all year accessory. Really light scarves can be perfect for the summertime and can really complete an outfit. There's something about a scarf that really makes me fall in love with it.

I've got a really light black one from Lands End that I'm kind of in love with and want to wear with everything. It really can complete a look, especially in a dress that just needs a little something.

I don't own an infinity scarf but they look so awesome that I just want to try one out. My favorite one, from this set, has to be the stripped scarf. It's just so beautiful and such a great color for the summer and fall months!

Do you wear scarves during the summer? Or strictly in the winter time?

On Growing Up Southern

The other day I had a friend ask me what it was like growing up in the south. I kind of titled my head and laughed a little...only to realize she was serious.

All photos were taken by me, and were in New Orleans, LA!
Walking in Jackson Square admiring all the artwork is one of my favorite things.

It took me a little while to figure out what she meant. I know that the culture is different from the north and the south, even in the south and the deep south, but I never thought up as growing up in the south as anything really special (until I got older).

Favorite spot in the square. It's just so beautiful.
For me, growing up in the south means a lot of different things. Summers spent in New Orleans (Nola) with family, spring trips to the zoo (or fall, but never summer), long days and even longer evenings, a different way of pronouncing things, and iced sweet tea.

A view from our parking spot.
It's about writing thank you notes and saying yes ma'am and no ma'am, yes sir and no sir (and if you didn't, you got in HUGE trouble), always addressing people by Mrs. and Mr. and their last name, it's considered rude if you don't.

It wasn't' really busy here this day, but that's what makes it beautiful
Sitting on the front/back porch every evening and relaxing after a long day of work, working in a garden or sewing almost everyday, mason jars, fireflies, a love of football (Saints & LSU) and  coca-cola.

My favorite thing about New Orleans, the water meters.
My mamma always told me two phrases could get you anywhere in life "Bless your heart" and "Isn't that special". She also taught me that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar and to never burn bridges.

I would love to live here one day.
It's about wearing pearls everyday and begin hospitable, charming, graceful and genuine.

It's not something you can learn, it's something you're born with and born into. Manners are your best friend, as well as Martha Stewart and arts and crafts.

Do you take pride in where you were born and raised? Where is your favorite city?

White Hot

White Hot

During the summer months, I always have the strongest urge to wear white. I'm not quite sure why, but something about it just calls to me.

However, I am quite literally the messiest person known to man kind. I can spill on anything and everything, and trust me, I do.

The few items I've put up here show just a little bit of what I'm loving this week! I cannot get enough of the white pencil dress, although I would probably destroy it within ten minutes of wearing it.

Something a little more suttle that I could probably wear would be the white top. Lately I've been obsessing over tops like this! Most likely because anything without sleeves is a friend to me.

What colors are you feeling this month? Are you obsessed with white too?

Happy Anniversary: Two Years

taken at our friends 'Turkey Day' party -- November 2011
Today, Elliot and I make two years. While this is a silly picture of us, it defines our relationship perfectly. We can be so silly and carefree, while the next minute we'll be super serious about something (although this doesn't happen all that often).

So here's to today, at the beach with my family. Happy Anniversary, Elliot. May there be many more to come.

Summer Hats

Summer Hats

This week I'm heading out to the beach, so I'm loving all things beach-related! I haven't been to the beach in forever and I'm so excited to be heading there on vacation.

I don't know about you but I am pale as all get out, which then means that I burn really, really easily. With that, I have a lot of baseball caps to wear during the summer and winter months but when spring and summertime comes around I crave floppy hats, especially for the beach.

There are so many different styles out there to choose from that sometimes I can get kind of overwhelmed. I narrowed it down to four different hats and styles that I really loved!

I think that the two on the top have to be my favorite. I don't know if I would do black though because I really don't want to attract the sun more than I already do!

Do you wear floppy hats? What's your favorite?
