College Living Problems

So heres the deal: I live in an older (not taken care of at all) rental house with two of my good friends. It's the perfect house for us because we all have really hectic schedules (with working, school and other important commitments) we needed to live close to school. It's literally a five-ten minute drive (I'll be parked and start walking on campus) depending on the lights you catch. Sounds perfect right? Wrong. The house is a really cute house, on the outside, but has not been taken care of AT ALL. It's kind of run down and whenever there's a problem we rarely get any feedback from the landlord. Trust me, we've had fleas, the kitchen sink leak, the light in a bedroom not work, and these are just the "bigger" issues. So, moral of the story is the fact that it's an older house...I just got caught up rambling.

Anyways now for the story: My roommate Cab and I are both studying, we study together (it's totally not distracting at all sometimes), and so we decided to take a break. Unbeknownst to us we both decided to shower at the same time. Y'all this was the WRONG idea. Luckily before then we have never had two people in both the showers at the same time. I was in the middle of washing the shampoo out my hair and all the sudden the water started to get slower and slower. I was so confused. Then, to my horror, the water turned freezing. I quickly jumped out the shower only to hear the water still running. Then it hit me, Cab started to shower as well.

After she got out the shower she came to me, scared our water heater wasn't working (we had this problem before as well), and I told her it was PROBABLY because we were showering at the same time and our water heater was really small. She calmed down, but then we had to make an agrement not to shower at the same time ever again...what can I say we both love hot showers.

End silly story.

Hunger Games Nail Polish

China Glaze just made a nailpolish collection based on the Hunger Games movies (which are based on the novels) and I cannot wait. The shades and swatches are listed below! I’m so excited for this. I love Dress Me Up and Electrify. I hope that they will be in stores near me because I would love to add these to my ever growing nail polish collection.
What do you think about them? Are you excited for the movies?

Staying Healthy

For me, staying healthy isn't always easy. In fact, it never seems like it's something that is easy to do. I try and stay positive and eat healthily because it makes me feel better about myself. Your diet (no, not dieting; diet = the foods you consume) is really important. Everything you eat has an impact on your body, so if you're eating junk you're not letting your body heal itself as fast.

Drinking water every day is so important, I feel like I can't stress it enough. I know I don't get the 8 glasses of water a day in every day, but I have a non-disposable water bottle that I use and I'll always be drinking from it.

I use one like this.
Take a hot bath every now and then. It's so therapeutic and it can help you relax when you're very stressed out. It will calm you down and soothe your muscles.

And sometimes use bath bombs like this
Lastly but not least, exercise. This will strengthen your muscles and the stronger you feel the better pain tolerance you'll have! I walk across campus every day - which may not seem too bad but it's a 20-25 minute normal-paced walk or a 10-15 minute brisk-paced walk to get from one side of campus to another. I purposely park on the opposite side of campus so I know I'll get my exercise in for the day!

Fill in the Blank Friday

I sit here, procrastinating from doing homework (because anything right now is more amusing than 16th century American History), and stumbled upon thelittlestthingswedo's blog! So I've decided to do a fill in the blank friday! As well as doing another post later in the day :)

1.   My favorite place i've ever traveled to is  everywhere. I love traveling so much and each place holds a special part in my heart.

2.  Italy  is somewhere I'd love to go someday.

3.  I pass the time on a plane (or bus, or car ride or train) by   listening to music and singing along, or if I'm not driving, I'll read a book or play on my iPhone.

4.  My three must-haves when I travel are     an iPhone    ,    snacks   and     a cozy blanket. (I totally agree with her three things!)

5.  My favorite travel companion is  my boyfriend Elliot. He's got such an amazing sense of adventure.

6.  The craziest thing that ever happened to me while traveling is when I was in Memphis for Bonnaroo. That entire trip really. It was such an amazing experience with friends but so crazy at the same time.

7.  The most exotic food I've ever tried while traveling is  fried crickets (at the zoo ;] ).

8.  If I could live anywhere else, I'd live in  Washington DC, New York City, Italy, Europe (in general).

9.  I have been to    seven (i think)
states in the U.S.

How to Get Ready in Less than 30 Minutes

Clearly not a morning person - Christmas morning at the grandparents.
I don't know about you, but I am not a morning person at all. I try and stay asleep as long as I can, sometimes pushing the snooze button up to three times... This can be a problem for me sometimes, as I don't want to look like a hot mess going into my 8am class.
So to combat for my love of sleep I try and shower at night (and blow-dry my hair) and then go to sleep in the underclothes I'll be wearing the next day.
I will not skimp on my face routine in the morning, doesn't matter how late I am. This is because the healthier your skin looks, the less makeup you're going to need. And always, always, always moisturize.
I always try and set out the things I'm going to wear/the things I need for the next day by my door so I can quickly get up and go in the morning. Another thing that helps me is that I have a lot of "basic" clothes in my wardrobe so if I do forget to pick out something at night, I'll be able to just run to my closet and throw something on!

A Little Personal

Hey y'all, so today through February 2nd, there's an apartment complex (that mainly students rent) called The Cottages and they're having a contest to see which sorority can get the most likes. I know this may sound a little silly, but whatever sorority gets the most like they will donate $1,000 to their philanthropy.

Now my sorority is Kappa Alpha Theta and our philanthropy is C.A.S.A (Court Appointed Special Advocates). We work with children, for children. This philanthropy is very near and dear to my heart and I would really appreciate it if y'all could take a little time out of your day and go like their Facebook page and the status for my sorority.

Please and thank you so much for all those who will help out!

8. If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, without being on a budget, where would you go & why?
9. Music or TV?
10.  What's your favorite pastime?
11. What is one common misconception about you?

{Eleven} Things: Part 2

Annnd now it's time for Part 2 of the Eleven Things game thingy!

The Rules:
1. Post the rules.
2. Post 11 things about you.
3. Answer the questions the tagger asked you.
4. Write 11 new questions for those you tag.

Questions From Alex:
1. If you had to eat 1 condiment for the rest of your life, what would it be? Oh my goodness gracious, if I absolutely haveee to choose I think it would be ketchup.

2. What kind of socks do you wear? Ankle socks. I cannot stand high socks, especially living in Louisiana, it gets so hot all of the time.

3. What camera do you use for your blog shots? I have a Nikon D90 that I use for most of the shots, but otherwise I'm using Instagram on my iPhone.

4. What's the best random city you've been to (i.e., not known for tourism)? I don't know if this counts, but I went to Memphis, Tennessee this past summer for Bonnaroo. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I'm really into music, as are a lot of my friends, so being in a place with people who appreciate the same kind of music that you do and being able to experience the live performances is just so amazing.

5. Television or Film? Film, most definitely. I may be a little biased because my boyfriend wants to work in film, maybe even direct, but I think that film appeals to me more because (being in college/forever busy) it's hard for me to keep up with a show. With film, I can take a short amount of time set aside for the film and grasp the whole concept at once.

6. Would you rather live in freezing weather (32 F, 0 C) or extreme heat (100 F, 38 C) all year long? I already live in extreme heat (100 F) during the summer months, especially since it's a wet heat/wet cold down here. So I would have to say extreme heat just because I'm used to it.

7. Skype, Gchat, or FB chat? Skype. All the way. This is mainly how my boyfriend and I communicate with each other during the week (his cell phone hates me and refuses my text messages a lot of the time).

8. Do you speak another language? If so, how the hell did you learn?? This is a selfish question. I need your best suggestions. I'm in the process of learning Italian right now. I'm minoring in it at school, so it's got kind of an advantage to going to class everyday and studying my butt off for it at night (only because I want to be able to speak it fluently).

9. What is your favorite international cuisine? I like a lot of diverse foods but right now I'm really into Thai food.

10. What is your favorite YouTube video of all time? My music mood and preference changes from month to month, that's for sure, but right now I'm really feeling this take-away show by a band called The Local Natives because of how it shows off their pure raw talent. Check it:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6hhE_sqJG3g" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

11.What is your go to magazine? I love Vogue and Elle. I'm trying to figure out how to get the Italian Vogue shipped to my house so I can work on my language skills some more right now!

{Eleven} Things: Part 1

Recently I was tagged by Alex to participate in a blog game called 11 things! She's the blogger of Ifs Ands & Butts and if you haven't checked out her blog yet you totally should! I'm following her lead and posting it in three parts because it's super long (and let's face it, I have the attention span of a fly at times so I know a lot of other people would get lost easily well!). So! Here goes:

The Rules:
1. Post the rules.
2. Post 11 things about you.
3. Answer the questions the tagger asked you.
4. Write 11 new questions for those you tag.

11 Things About Me:

I don't have an "about me" section, since I'm new to blogging over here, and so I feel like this is almost the perfect time to do a short one!

1.  I'm a 19-year-old majoring in History & Anthropology with minors in Italian & English sophomore living in Louisiana.

2.  I'm in a sorority at my college, which I love very very much, and have made some of my best friends through it.
I've been best friends with this girl since the fourth grade.  It makes my time in my sorority so much more special.
3.  I'm dating this silly boy named Elliot, who's double majoring in French & Film, who (currently) lives an hour and a half away.

4.  I live daydreaming about making trips to Europe, whether it be to study, travel or whatever. I want to go so badly. Maybe even live there.

5. I love my Netflix, maybe a little too much. I'm still in the middle of Season 6 of Lost...kind of obsessed. It's amazing.

6. I love having something to do 24/7. I work two jobs (one during the week, and one [mainly] on the weekends), take 19 hours, and am in a sorority. This stuff takes a lot of time up and you know what, I'm really happy about it. I hate having "nothing" to do, so with everything I have different responsibilities. Next semester I plan on joining a club or two and seeing how that goes as well.

7.  I love talking to people. Now many of my friends will try and tell you otherwise (possibly because I'm awful about answering text messages and sometimes cell phone calls) but I swear! Email me, I'll respond (probably within the hour, if I'm not in the middle of something).

8. I'm INSANELY ticklish...like it's not even okay when Elliot tickles me...I'm not happy about it.

9. I'm obsessed with the acoustic version of pretty much any song; really right now it's I'm Never Going to Leave This Bed by Maroon 5.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ADmCFmYLns4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

10. I'm completely OCD...okay not like obsessively OCD but I like neat and orderly things....but sometimes I let everything get a little messy (especially during finals week...).

11. Slowly but surely I'm working on learning how to perfect cooking and baking. I'm aright at it but I'm trying to take it to the next level by putting my own little twist to a lot of the recipes I find!

Looking Back on Christmas Break [Part 1]

For me, school began back on Tuesday. This means lots of tests, studying, working, sorority meetings & other important things, getting ready for my junior year and slightly freaking out about what I want to do for the rest of my life. So, I've compiled a list of instagram photos of some of the things from my winter break:

1. Groceries for starting a new year
2. My brand new Francescas bag.
3. Coffee and a good book while waiting to be interviewed for the school newspaper

5. Three computer screens at work, because obviously one just isn't enough
6. A gash on my leg from not paying attention while shaving....

8. Buffalo Wild Wings at 1am, after movie night (of course)
9. Another coffee, after working with the kids

Need A Little Change Up?

Yeah? Me too. I feel that with the New Year, I need to change things up a little bit. There are a few things that I’ve been doing (and plan on doing) that will make me feel refreshed and renewed for a New Year and for a new me!
·      Redoing my room at the house my roommates and I rent out: It’s really hard for me to redo things once school goes into full swing but during my winter break, I finally had time set aside to deep clean and add a little bit of new to my room. A little bit of new would be adding flowers as much as I can, hanging pictures and inspiration, and lighting candles and incense.

·      Redoing my closet: Every now and then I notice a few things in my closet that are there from a few years ago, that I haven’t worn since a few years ago, and that I’ve fallen out of love with. If you can’t decide whether to keep a piece of clothing or not try it on! You fell in love with it for a reason, see if you still love it. If you need a second opinion, take a picture and send it to a friend. Once you get everything together donate them or sell them to a thrift store!

Some of the clothe's I'm donating [but more on that later]
·      Changing up my look: I’ve done this multiple times before, and so I did it once again! I was blonde when the New Year rang in and now I’ve got auburn hair!  I love experimenting with nail polish, makeup, and clothes I really don’t ever wear. Next step: get a haircut! I know I desperately need one.

Maybe back to this color again.

A Trip to the Atlanta Aquarium

A week (or so) ago I posted about my trip to Atlanta to visit some friends  (you can find it here). It was there when I mentioned about a trip to the Atlanta Aquarium (my boyfriend Elliot and I are huge aquarium nerds). We could (and did) literally spend hours upon hours in an aquarium. So when we went to Atlanta, it was a no brainer that we had to go to the Georgia Aquarium. It was gorgeous, the layout was magnificent and it was HUGE! I could spend hours just watching the manatee’s alone, they’re possibly one of my favorite creatures. It was a little expensive (for a broke college student) but it was completely worth it, and if you’re in Atlanta any time soon. I would most definitely suggest going there!

Golden Globes 2012!

I don't know about you, but I watched the Golden Globes last night. We don't have cable at the house we're renting, so we had to get creative about watching it. My roommate and I live (with our parents) about two streets away, so we kindly asked her mom and dad to let us come over and watch (on their huge TV & in front the warm fireplace) and they kindly obliged. We weren't there in time to watch the red carpet (obviously my favorite part) but we did get there for the actual show (which was pretty good).
So after the show I decided to go and look at all of the pictures from the red carpet.
These were a few of my favorite dresses:

Emma Stone & Charlize Theron

Shailene Woodley & Claire Danes

Helen Miren & Julie Bowen

Did you watch? Who were your favorites?
